Kil Hu Solo Exhibition: 《Non-Duality (不二)》

In the Buddhist scripture Vimalakirti Sutra, the state of transcending oppositions is referred to as "Non-Duality (不二)"
This concept signifies a state of complete equality where the boundaries between good and evil, light and darkness, mine and not mine disappear.
It implies that delusion is itself enlightenment, and enlightenment is itself delusion [煩惱卽菩提],
and that there is no distinction between life and death, or nirvana.

Kil Hu

Here's the English translation: Kil Hu was born in 1961 in Busan, South Korea.
After graduating from the Department of Painting at Keimyung University in 1988,
he earned his master's degree from the same university in 1996.
In 2005, he was awarded the SAC Young Artist Award,
and that same year held a solo exhibition at the Hangaram Art Museum in the Seoul Arts Center.
Kil has held solo exhibitions at various institutions both domestically and internationally,
including the Pohang Museum of Steel Art (Pohang) and the Songzhuang Contemporary Literature Museum (Beijing).
In 2014, he held a large-scale solo exhibition at White Artbox in Beijing.

《Non-Duality (不二)》

Kil Hu has spent decades exploring the spirituality
that transcends the origin of all things and the realm of sensory perception.
From portraits of Maitreya Buddha capturing moments of serene enlightenment
to oil paintings depicting the creative energy of the world, and sculptures that express these ideas in three dimensions,
Kil continues to expand his artistic spectrum without being confined to a single form.
The central theme that runs through his diverse works in various media and styles is "enlightenment."
Since the 2000s, Kil has delved deeply into Buddhist studies, particularly focusing on visualizing "Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi [無上正等覺],"
the ultimate and perfect enlightenment considered the highest state in Buddhism.
The world of enlightenment is referred to as "Buddha-dharma cannot be expressed in words [不立文字],"
meaning that the truth cannot be fully grasped through human doctrines or language.
Despite this, humanity has, for thousands of years, attempted to express and visualize this truth through various expedient means.

Kil Hu’s artistic journey is also dedicated to expressing the inexpressible world of enlightenment.
